One HUGE perk of being a children’s photographer? CAKE SMASHES! One of the most fun and crazy memories we have of our children is when they celebrate their first birthday and do a cake smash. A cake smash is just as the name sounds, you put a yummy cake in front of your one-year-old and wait for them to smash it and eat it. Not many people realize that it can take about thirty minutes for their kids to become even remotely interested in the cake. Sometimes the kids will finally explore the cake and not even like the texture or the feel of it! Luckily, as a children’s photographer, I can capture the happy moments in these sessions, even if there are lots of pouting and crying in between takes.
This is a collage from a cake smash session with Ava Marie! Ava turned one on September 8th. Her parents Michelle and Chaz, came from Mchenry, IL to my studio in Libertyville, IL for this session. One of the coolest parts about cake smash sessions is that the parents can bring their own decorations for the photoshoot. This adds a super personal touch that is differs it from any other session that I have done as a photographer! Michellle and Chaz chose to deck out the studio in bright pinks and oranges. Ava was super fierce in a giant pink tutu, and a onesie with adorable pink ruffles; there’s no doubt that she’s going to have some major sass to go along with her sweet personality.
One of the most amazing parts about being a childrens’ and family photographer is being able to capture special moments between the family and also being able to take a picture that shows the personality of the child! Ava was super fun to take pictures of. She is super giggly and all smiles. She is super silly but she can be a bit of a drama queen, but all princesses can be that way! Michelle and Chaz gave her her silly traits and made her such a bubbly little girl!
