As the weather gets warmer, it’s starting to become the perfect weather for family sessions! They’re best shot outdoors because of the endless scenery and backdrop. But any session as a family photographer is successful no matter if it’s outdoors or in the studio. One of my more recent family sessions was with Lana and Mike and their family. I have known Lana and Mike for a while and we have gotten so close over the years! Shooting with them is so much fun because our friendship dominates the session and it makes for some really great pictures! I have been Lana and Mike’s photographer for a previous reveal session where they learned that their youngest, Niko, was going to be a boy! See the reveal session HERE! The most recent session I had with Lana and her family was a one month session for Niko. Lana, Mike, Zoe and Niko came from their home in Grayslake to my Libertyville studio for this session.
What made this family session so special was the celebration of Niko. Lana and Mike wanted to make sure to take pictures capturing the first month of Niko’s life. One month sessions are so unique because the baby’s are still so young, but there is also such a difference from newborn to one month. They’re already so much bigger and more expressive and emotional! It’s crazy how much can change between one day and thirty days. Even though this session was focused on Niko, I captured so many great shots of the entire family!
As a family photographer, it’s part of my job to keep all the kiddos smiling and the parents relaxed, as it can be stressful for them if the kids aren’t cooperating. Luckily, Zoe and Niko were so sweet and were more than happy to be in front of a camera. The whole session was super laid back and the comfy environment turned out some really great pictures. During the session, daughter Zoe was 2, but she’s 3 now! Since I’m close with Lana and her family, I get to experience some of their family memories with them, but I love when they let me capture them as a family photographer.
